Faraday 09 Competition

The Faraday 08/09 competition comprises of two categories; an ‘open’ category and a 'Schools' category.

Setting the scene

We want you to help develop a new product using an intelligent material called d3o. The company which produces d3o operates at the cutting edge of materials development and application. Richard Palmer, the owner of the company, which is named d3o after the material, wants to ensure that his products remain at the forefront of technological innovation. With this in mind he has set this competition and will help to judge the final entries.

The competition is open to any age range and you can work individually or in a team. Get thinking and we will look forward to receiving your entries.

Closing date

Friday 5th December 08

Your brief

Think of a product (existing or new) that could utilise the properties of d3o and transform it into a ‘world beating’ new concept.

All you need to do is to present your idea so that it shows why d30 is an ideal material for use and why your target user group will want to buy it above any other similar product.

Your idea needs to be submitted in A4 format (either on paper or electronically). Your ideas need to be presented clearly; you may want to use sketches, diagrams, annotations, pictures of models etc.

You may also wish to add an audio clip that helps explain the concept and why it is a ‘world beater’ but this must be no longer than 1 minute.

You can find further support as well as the school-based version of this competition in the teachers’ section of this website.

'We are a small and dynamic company, and I am proud of what we have achieved as a team, but now is exactly the time to focus on the future - there is a lot of development potential in what we have today'
Richard Palmer
