Terms and conditions for the IET Faraday 08 competition
Who can enter?
The competition is open to all students in the UK from the ages of 12 to 16 inclusive on the competition closing date 14th December 2007.
Students can enter individually or in teams (no restriction on numbers).
Owners
The owner of the competition is The Institution of Engineering and Technology (The IET).
Submissions
All entries must be submitted online by using the entry submission form. Entries can be submitted by teachers or students. Submitted entries must be in AVI, WMV or MOV video formats, a maximum of 5 minutes duration and 50 mb file size. Only one upload per challenge entry; any duplicates will be discarded. The submission process will request video title, team name, school name, teachers name and email address.
All entries will be reviewed by The IET before appearing on the website. The IET reserves the right to stop any entry that does not adhere to these terms and conditions, or includes inappropriate content, from appearing on the website. Entries may take up to 3 working days to appear on the website.
Entries may be completed at school or in students’ own time.
Ideas submitted will only be used for the purpose of the competition and will not be used for any commercial purposes.
Closing date
Closing date for submitting entries online is 14th December 2007.
No responsibility will be accepted for any entries lost, delayed or damaged in the uploading process.
Entries cannot be returned. Please keep a copy before entering.
If the judges choose your video as one of the 4 regional winners, your winning team will be invited to take part in the filming of 4 ‘Faraday returns’ videos with leading scientists and engineers. Filming will take place in January, please therefore ensure that your team is available during this period.
Copyright
Copyright in all entries becomes the property of the Owners and they reserve the right to reproduce, promote and publicise the entries, in relation to IET Faraday, free of charge, at their discretion.
We respect the intellectual property rights of others and we prohibit users from uploading on the IET Faraday website any materials that violate another party's intellectual property rights. When we receive notification of alleged copyright infringement, we will promptly remove the allegedly infringing material.
If you believe that your own copyrighted work is accessible on the IET Faraday website, you may contact us with your notification of alleged copyright infringement.
Judges
The Owners will appoint judges who will choose the winners. The judges’ decision is final, there is no appeal system and no correspondence will be entered into.
Notification
The winners will be notified in the 2nd week of January 2008. The winners will be the entrants who, in the sole determination of the Judges, have submitted the most compelling use of an idea relating to the terms and conditions of the competition.
All entrants will be notified by end of January 2008.
Change of rules
The IET reserves the right to change rules of the competition at any time and without prior notice.
Promotional activity
The IET may ask the winners to take part in promotional activity arising from the competition.
Data protection
Data Protection Act 1998. Any information you provide will be held by The IET for the purposes of administering and promoting the Competition. You have the right to ask for a copy of the information held by us in our records in return for payment of a small fee. You also have the right to require us to correct any inaccuracies in your information.
