IET Faraday Challenge Days

Delivered in 45 school/college free of charge by the IET, the Faraday Challenge Days are one day STEM activities designed for six teams of six students aged 12-13 years. There are an additional 12 extra dates held at IET Academic Partner universities across the UK.

IET Faraday Challenge Days give students the opportunity to research, design and make prototype solutions to genuinely tough engineering problems. At each event teams compete to win a prize for themselves and a trophy for their school.

The event is set up and run by our team of STEM professionals to give you the time to focus on your students. It is an unbeatable opportunity to switch your students on to the subject you love.

Students win prizes for themselves and their school

The winners of each event win prizes for themselves and a trophy for their school. The top three teams from across the UK get an all expenses paid trip to the National Final in June 2013 to compete for a cash prize of up to £1,000 for their school.

Hosted in UK schools

A total of 45 in-school challenge days take place each year. Each Faraday Challenge Day host school provides a school hall, gym or large classroom for the day, and six teams of six students aged 12-13 to take part (36 students in total).

Host schools can either:
– enter all six teams from their own school, or
– enter one team from their own school, and invite five teams from local schools to join them.

Each team includes two students from Science, two from D&T, and two from Maths.

If you know that a local school has applied to host a Faraday Challenge Day this forthcoming academic year, why not get in touch and see if you can bag your school an invite!

Please note that the Faraday Challenge Days take place in UK schools and colleges only.
