STEM Activity days

In-school activity days and competitions from the IET come in the shape of the annual season of IET Faraday Challenge Days, and the FIRST® LEGO® League competition.

Budding young engineers take up the task of researching, designing and building prototype solutions to real engineering problems. At each of the IET Faraday Challenge Days and FIRST® LEGO® League tournaments teams compete to win a prize for themselves and a trophy for their school.

IET Faraday Challenge Days

IET Faraday Challenge Days are STEM activity days for students aged 12-13 years, held in schools and colleges all across the UK. There are 45 in-school events held each year with an additional 12 dates at IET Academic Partner universities across the UK. The IET Faraday Challenge Days are delivered free-of-charge by our Faraday Challenge Day team.

Applications to host an event open in the Summer term and are now closed, but if you know of a host school in your area why not get in touch with them and bag your school team an invite to take part?

FIRST® LEGO® League

FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL) is a global science and technology competition with over 250,000 young people aged 9-16 years taking part each year. The IET are the new contract holders for the competition in the UK and Ireland from 2012.

Teams work over a period of weeks or months to build a robot that they take to their local regional tournament and compete for the chance to reach the National and World Finals.

Team mentors can register teams at www.firstlegoleague.co.uk to take part in the 2012 Senior Solutions challenge.

IET Faraday Challenge Days in a Box

Faraday Challenge Day in a Box - Remote Operations

IET Faraday Challenge Days in a Box are a set of printable resources and guidance notes for teachers and technicians to run their very own cross-curricular activity day.

Based on the activities from past seasons of our IET Faraday Challenge Days, the 'box' of materials includes all of the elements that was used by our team of STEM professionals to deliver the days. These include film clips, an introductory presentation, certificates to hand out to each participating student, and much more. Click here to find out more!
