Full terms and conditions for IET Faraday 08 competition

Who can enter?

The competition is open to all students in the UK from the ages of 12 to 16 inclusive on the competition closing date 14th December 2007.

Students can enter individually or in teams (no restriction on numbers).

Owners

The owners of the competition are The Institution of Engineering and Technology.

Submissions

All entries must be submitted online by using the entry submission form. Entries can be submitted by teachers or students. Submitted entries must be  in AVI, WMV or MOV video formats, a maximum of 5 minutes duration and 50 mb file size. Only one upload per challenge entry; any duplicates will be discarded. The submission process will request video title, team name, school name, and uploaders name, email address and date of birth.

All entries will be reviewed by The IET before appearing on the website. The IET reserves the right to stop any entry that does not adhere to these terms and conditions, or includes inappropriate content, from appearing on the website. Entries may take up to 3 working days to appear on the website.

Entries may be completed at school or in students’ own time.

Ideas submitted will only be used for the purpose of the competition and will not be used for any commercial purposes.

Closing date

Closing date for submitting entries online is 14th December 2007.

No responsibility will be accepted for any entries lost, delayed or damaged in the uploading process.

Entries cannot be returned. Please keep a copy before entering.

Copyright

Copyright in all entries becomes the property of the Owners and they reserve the right to reproduce, promote and publicise the entries, in relation to IET Faraday, free of charge, at their discretion.

Other competitions

An entry that has won a prize in another competition is not eligible for entry in this competition.

Judges

The Owners will appoint judges who will choose the winners. The judges’ decision is final, there is no appeal system and no correspondence will be entered into.

Notification

The winners will be notified week commencing 17th December. The winners will be the entrants who, in the sole determination of the Judges, have submitted the most compelling use of an idea relating to the terms and conditions of the competition.

All entrants will be notified by end of January 2008.

Change of rules

The Institution of Engineering and Technology reserves the right to change rules of the competition at any time and without prior notice.

Promotional activity

The Institution of Engineering and Technology may ask the winners to take part in promotional activity arising from the competition.

Data protection

Data Protection Act 1998.  Any information you provide will be held by

The Institution of Engineering and Technology for the purposes of administering and promoting the Competition. You have the right to ask for a copy of the information held by us in our records in return for payment of a small fee.  You also have the right to require us to correct any inaccuracies in your information.

Prizes

IET Prize:

Four regional winners

School wins £5000

Students win £500

Students win three places on a three day engineering course.

Students take part in the filming of four ‘Faraday returns’ videos with leading scientists and engineers.

12 regional runners up

Schools win £1000 and an engraved Faraday bust

Students win £500 (to be divided equally amongst each member if entering as a team).

National Winner

Announcements to be made at the final venue on 2nd April.

Audience prize

A prize will be awarded to the Audience winner (entry with the highest online voting score)
